4 November 2018Keyword Research is one of the standard positioning practices and everyone has their own specific ways to do it. Sometimes traditional methods fail, and question arises – where to get new keywords? I hope that this article will come in handy as a source of inspiration for new methods of obtaining such words.
1. Seasonality and trending topics
We rarely face a situation in which interest in a particular industry is the same throughout the year. People’s interests and priorities tend to change quickly. We can observe it best before Christmas, when traffic in online stores increases significantly.
Trends are bound by similar fluctuation that we can monitor using the Google Trends tool. Also, they tend to appear more or less unpredictably. Thanks to knowledge about trends and seasonality of the website, we are able to better select keywords for new articles. We can also use them to create new sub-pages for some of your keywords.
Flexibility in managing a website is crucial to have a chance in taking advantage of the opportunities arising from seasonality and trends, converting them to one’s own advantage. Trends are an infinite source of inspiration for new articles. Constant tracking of the industry situation with the help of aforementioned or other tools will enable us to take the lead in the industry. We also have a chance to get a lot of traffic from describing these events before anyone else does.
On-site search
It’s always a good idea to learn from our clients experience, gained from surfing through the website and the queries they entered in the search engine. Not only is it a good way to locate problems, but it is also a message about what our users are looking for. If among the keywords listed, we’ll find a potentially interesting topic, we can write a text about it or create a special subpage dedicated to it.
This method requires little effort. The only thing we need to do is to connect Google Analytics to the search engine on our website. Google will then start collecting queries and submitting them to Google Analytics. This easy way will quickly provide new material that will enrich your Keyword Research.
Google is able to suggest key words for us. There are several ways to do it. First of course is the Keyword Planner, thanks to which we will quickly learn not only if our selected keywords have big competition and whether they are difficult, but also learn about additional keywords that may be related to the industry.
This is not the end. We can also catch keywords from Google hints. One of the methods is to start entering the keyword phrase in the search bar. You should see Google suggestions while typing. These are the most frequently searched phrases from a list – real queries entered into the search engine by actual users.
After entering the phrase at the bottom of the search results page, we’ll also find other suggested queries. We can also use them when acquiring interesting phrases from the long tail. This will also enable us to recognize which keywords we can group together and put on one subpage. Thanks to this, we will increase the reliability of our text.
Competition analysis
Analysis of competition is another great way to properly prepare of extend Keyword Research. While looking for inspiration it’s a good idea to take a look at how the client’s competition has dealt with the issue. We can do it manually or analyze the site with special tools. We will certainly catch a few interesting keywords worth using on our website.
An obvious example of such tools is SENUTO, which can help a lot in analysis of competition. Going to the Competition tab, you get the “Compare keyword sets” view, that allows to compare up to three selected competitors of our site. After selecting “show separate words” we get a view of all the phrases that competitors, score and we do not. This way we will quickly find new keywords to use. We can also apply filters to the search results, further limiting the long list of words. Most certainly we will be able to choose something interesting from them.

For some time, Google has been paying attention to the words related to the query. For example, people looking for good headphones will probably want to know their price and parameters. That is why it’s so important to use tools that allow efficient aggregation of such related words.
We have a few such tools at our disposal, for example the Google mentioned above or on-site search results. There is also the possibility to manually group related keywords by segregating them in the spreadsheet. Fortunately, we have another solution that greatly speeds up the proper collection of such words.
That is, of course, Senuto, whose tool entitled “Dependent words” offers us a list of words from the long tail, which can help to create a good Keyword Research. In addition to standard information about the average monthly search for a word and its CPC, we can also observe it’s seasonality in the annual system.
